Pedometer – EPS

What is Pedometry?

Pedometry is a special mat (dynamometer) with pressure sensors on which we can stand and walk to analyze our posture and gait. This provides a kinetic gait analysis, through which we can discover and diagnose anatomical variations and conditions not only of the lower limbs but of the entire skeleton. For example, anatomical variations and conditions such as flat feet, high arches, leg length discrepancies, hallux valgus, varus deformity, cavus foot, overpronation, diabetic foot, neurological conditions, rheumatoid foot, sports injuries, etc., can not only be identified but also diagnosed in terms of severity, type, shape, degree, and pressure distribution, and a treatment plan can be developed. Afterward, a new pedometry test can capture the results of the treatment. Pedometry is a painless diagnostic method, with repeatability, and without any radiation exposure.

It should be emphasized that pedometry is not a method for manufacturing insoles. Even to give instructions for making an insole, pedometry alone is not enough. The condition must be identified first, and only then can a customized insole be created for the specific patient and their diagnosed condition.

Each pedometry test should be accompanied by a diagnosis (such as CT or MRI) from a specialized doctor who has studied the specific field (foot & ankle fellowship).
